The site – located on the edge of Putney Common – was commended for the positive relations formed with local community groups. Particular mention was given to the success of the public viewing gallery and an open door policy to the local community, which encouraged visits from interested parties including educational establishments. Other highlights included;
planting of a herb garden on site
participation in a wood recycling scheme
the acquisition of sustainable materials from local suppliers
rain water harvesting
a green travel policy
clear incentives in place to promote safety on site
a high standard of welfare facilities including a hot food canteen.
Receiving the award on behalf of the project team Ian Cresswell, Director of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality at Durkan said:
“We are very proud that our site has been recognised in this way. This award demonstrates the excellence of the team on site at Putney Green. It’s their dedication, innovation and team spirit that enabled us to deliver a flagship school and apartment complex with minimal disruption to local residents.”
